| This, the first Skyline, was launched in April 1957, and was built to have the performance of a large European or American vehicle within the dimensions of a small car. Low-slung, the car presented an image of stability, and a two-tone body color was also offered as standard in contravention of conventional wisdom. The suspension was elaborate, with a double wishbone + coil set up at the front and a De Dion axle + leaf structure at the rear. The frame achieved improved stiffness and low height thanks to its backbone tray structure. The ALS models utilized a column shifter and had a passenger capacity of 6. The deluxe ALSID-1 and standard ALSIS-1 versions were differentiated by different front grilles and side moldings. |
