| The Cherry was Nissan's first front-engine, front-wheel drive small passenger car. Its development focused on safety, pollution, comfort and practicality, based on a theme that referred to people-centered environmental friendliness. It featured a two-level setup with the 988 cc A10 engine mounted laterally over the transmission. The Cherry was popular due to its low weight, high performance and characteristic styling. It had a monocoque body, structured in the front and rear to absorb impact in the event of a crash. Among the measures employed to reduce environmental pollution was a carburetor equipped with a blow-by gas recirculation device and idle limiter. The Cherry disappeared in 1978 when it was replaced by the Pulsar. |
