The Pajero inherited the rough-road driving prowess of the storied Jeep marque, taking the impressive credentials of that brand and adding further refinement and performance to create a new type of versatile and modern 4-wheel drive vehicle for ordinary drivers and passengers.
Its main characteristics were as follows:
(1) Low weight, thanks to a compact total length of 3.9 m and a small engine, which combined with a body shape with a low wind drag factor to achieve high performance and low fuel consumption.
(2) Durability to withstand large inputs from the road and long periods of use due to stiffening underfloor reinforcement rails. Reliability and endurance was further guaranteed by improving water and corrosion resistance.
(3) Excellent handling and rough-road prowess as a result of the following features: an optimized front-rear weight distribution; front independent suspension; large approach angle, departure angle and ramp break-over due to short overhangs; and large tires, which gave it a high ground clearance. |
