This diesel engine was developed based on the CB type gasoline engine mounted on the popular Daihatsu Charade car. This engine had an exceptionally low total displacement of 993 cc for an automobile engine. The needle pin of fuel injection valve featured a special notch to secure the injection path after carbon adherence, and it achieved low combustion noise, good fuel economy, and high output. Including the features above, the novelty of this engine was highly praised, receiving the Prize of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Machine Industry in November 1983. |
