| In parallel with its production of trailer trucks and trailer buses in the post-war period, Hino also pursued the development of a new type of truck with an 8-ton capacity, a step up from the 5 to 6-ton trucks that then dominated the market. The TH10 went on sale in 1950 and was one archetype of the large bonnet trucks that appeared with the arrival of the era of large-volume transport as the Japanese economy recovered, and it remained in production for almost 20 years, until the shift to cab-over trucks in the late 1960s. Hino also produced a bus that had the same main chassis parts. The truck was also exported, mainly to the Southeast Asian market. The vehicle was developed to have a quiet engine, light steering and braking to make driving easy, and good ride comfort, as well as to minimize damage to cargo. To that end, the engine was completely redesigned, and features such as worm roller steering, full air brakes, and long-span springs were used. The styling around the front end was also praised for its maintainability and clean lines. |
