| Nissan had been refining its Maru-D Plan since 1949 with the aim of producing a newly designed Datsun vehicle, but progress on the plan accelerated with the acquisition of the technologies that were used for the domestic production of Austin vehicles, and in 1955 the 110 sedan and the 120 truck were announced. The truck was seen as the heart of the Maru-D Plan, and successive model changes were carried out thereafter. As soon as the vehicles went on sale, orders came pouring in, and the company devised a system for increasing production in which the sedan was made at its Yoshiwara Plant, while the truck was produced at its Yokohama Plant. The sedan later received the Mainichi Industrial Design Award.
In 1956, Nissan announced the new Datsun 113 sedan and Datsun 123 truck, both of which featured a remote control unit that the company had researched and prepared to adopt. |
