| Points of interest, topicality | : | Hatsudoki Seizo Co., Ltd, the predecessor of Daihatsu, made efforts to enhance domestic technology and end the market domination of imported engines. As a result, it installed Japanese-built engines in its three-wheel vehicles.
At the time, engines for imported motorcycles were simply mounted without modification on three-wheel vehicles. Some three-wheel vehicles were also motorcycles with an extra wheel at the rear. This gave them extremely poor maneuverability and operability.

| Vehicle introduction | : | Effect/notes: At the time, the market was dominated by imported engines, which were usually installed into the hand-made vehicles. However, Daihatsu decided to manufacture its engines locally and started production of engines and bodies more suited to mass production. This was an important landmark for the Japanese automotive industry. Technical features: The adoption of a locally manufactured engine, and the integration of the engine and body design have been described previously. Initially, three-wheeled vehicles had a simple structure created by extending a motorcycle wheelbase, adding an extra wheel at the rear and installing a packing box. Such vehicles were also powered by the same chain drive as the motorcycle. This lacked durability and cornering performance. The Daihatsu three-wheeled vehicles at the time focused on these points and adopted the first power transmission driveshaft. This improvement was applied to the model HB three-wheeled vehicle in August, 1931. |  |
