| Production of the Type 80 truck began in 1937. Nissan had seen that the American automobile maker Graham-Paige had fallen on hard times, and it purchased everything from the manufacturing drawings to the machine tools for the main passenger cars and trucks in Graham-Paige's line-up, with the intention of manufacturing the vehicles in Japan. This truck was the first cab-over model produced in Japan, although this type was already being made in America and Europe. With its smart, streamlined body that gave the driver a larger field of vision, its excellent ride comfort, spacious cargo bed, and small turning radius, the vehicle was well-suited to the Japanese road environment. In addition to the passenger car and truck, Nissan also manufactured a bus version, the Type 90. |
