Kawasaki's first 4-stroke sports model was developed for export and based on the K1 model produced at the old Meguro factory.
The 650-W1, which had the largest displacement of any Japanese motorcycle at that time, was intended as Japan's strategic entry into competition with the world's top-class machines from British makers.
It featured a crankcase separate from the transmission, and came with right-hand shifting and left-hand braking that followed the style of British motorcycles. |
